One year. Countless phenomenal events for a slew of people, couples, brands and industries.

Sure, technically speaking we opened our doors two years ago, but with you-know-what crushing businesses last year (particularly those that specialise in bringing people together), we’re only counting the time that we were able to host game-changing events within our four walls.

So, our four founders – Adam, Ash, Gid and Josh – sat down to reminisce on The Timber Yard’s very first year in business.

Adam and Josh put it best when they said, “We didn’t really feel like celebrating last year so we thought we would hold off until we could actually share the love of what we have created now that live events are happening again”…”the way we see it, this is our second year and a chance to celebrate our awesome achievements for the first year of operation in 2019.”

So, roll out the red carpet, because here are some massive achievements from our first year of business. Fair warning; when you’re the biggest indoor/outdoor event space in inner Melbourne (and can cater for up to 1,500 people across each of our five unique event spaces), you’re going to host some pretty incredible events. Host show-stopping corporate events for every industry

We’re honoured to have hosted some incredible corporate events for brands and organisations that include the likes of Bunnings, Mclaren, PWC, Loreal, Milwaukee, St Kilda Football Club, Mazda, Mecca and Ferrari. But one amazing occassion Ash will never forget was a large-scale event for a great cause.

“In Feb 2020 we hosted the Victorian High Country comeback event, welcoming thousands of Melbournians throughout the day to help support the Victorian high country after the devastating bushfires. In a single day we raised over $500,000 to help support the rebuild of the rural communities. I am still in awe.”

As for Gid, “My personal favourite would have to be The Snowdome Foundation’s Bloody Good Dinner. This event featured a Michelin Star chef from Singapore catering for 800 guests inside our beautiful Warehouse, which we’d transformed into an insane fire and burnt ends theme – this event raised over a million dollars for blood cancer research.”

And with the industry the way it was in 2020, we were able to master the art of hybrid events, giving brands the power to invite guests from all over the world, and the space and technology to physically and digitally host them.

Throw socially distanced & hybrid indoor/outdoor events

By nature of The Timber Yard’s layout, we have the ability to host large-scale socially distanced outdoor events, and our first year of business was full of them.

Josh recalls one of the most breathtaking intimate events on the calendar for 2019, “We held an amazing high-end dinner for 80 VIP guests of a large multinational financial corporation. Instead of looking for one of our smaller rooms, they opted to host the intimate dinner in the middle of our large warehouse. The juxtaposition between the small gathering in the middle of the large open warehouse worked brilliantly.”

Something we pride ourselves on doing with our events is helping brands and businesses exceed their audiences’ expectations in ways you wouldn’t believe. We created The Timber Yard in order to raise the standard of events in Melbourne and, according to Gid and Josh, there was one event that really secured our title as the city’s Event Gurus.

“The Ferrari launch of their new SF90 was one of my bucket list events. It’s not often you can say that the most renowned auto brand in the world chose to align their brand with your organisation in order to launch their new car”…”the production for the reveal was absolutely incredible, with red lasers framing the car – it felt like a real life James Bond film set!

Fall in love with our wedding venue

And boy did we (and Melbourne) fall hard. With the ability to host nuptials within any one of our spaces – or even across multiple – we were able to create the perfect wedding for countless couples; from intimate to lavish and everything in between.

Highlights for Adam included “the trio that performed for a wedding, roving throughout the crowd, playing super soulful and funky l tunes – I think the lead singer’s name was Cisco – they were seriously dope.”

Watch live music take centre stage

The beauty of our venue is that we have the ability to host events in all forms, including live music. In fact, Gid dropped a little teaser that there may be more live music in the works for The Timber Yard – “we’re working on a bunch of shows with world renowned bands”. But in terms of live music events, there’s one that really stands out for Josh:

“During one of our corporate events, there was a 20-piece orchestra performing on a custom made double storey stage. Strings at the top, wind instruments at the bottom. The show started with a two-piece duet behind a floor to ceiling curtain which then dropped down, revealing the hidden orchestra. It was truly a breathtaking show filled with wonderful moments!”

Speaking of celebrations, Josh reckons we’re about due for our own birthday party, “COVID kind of threw our 1st birthday plans out the window, so I think this year we’ll need to pack two years worth of celebrating into one incredible celebration….so stay tuned!”

Suffice to say our debut year was far from small, but one thing you can put your money on is our second year being even greater, “We’re super excited to be operating events again, after all that’s why we built the venue! There are already so many exciting projects locked in over the next 12 months that we can’t wait to share with you!” And we can tell you one thing with absolute certainty; Ash is not wrong.
